セーリング・手漕ぎのレースに、私の彼が参加しました。
ホキアンガ ハーバーという港の入り口からスタート。
満ち潮にのって入り江をのぼり、夜はキャンプ泊、
そして、翌日、引き潮とともに、入り江を下る、片道が約35kmというコースです。
スタート地点のオポノニ。かつて、イルカのオポが住んでいた町です。
潮の干満を利用しているものの、風や天気次第では、
過酷なアドベンチャーにもなりうる、と聞いていて、ちょっとドキドキ。
ちなみに、エンジンを使ったら失格です。
帆で走るか、手漕ぎで走るか、の選択肢しかありません。
彼、お手製の木製ディンギーで参加。

親子3人で。
一日目は、幸い、追い風のスタート。セーリングでぐんぐん進んでいきました。

私とMiaは陸路を、車で併走。
目的地はホーレケ。本当に何にもないけど、なぜか立派なパブ(飲み屋さん)がある町です。
大きな建物がパブ。水際に広いビアガーデンも併設されています。
パブの庭にテントを設置。
Miaのキャンプ初体験は、なんと「パブで」となりました(笑)。

夕方。参加者達のテントでいっぱい。
Miaもしっかり寝てくれました。これは早朝の写真。
ちょっと冷え込んだ朝でした。
翌日は、無風。
鏡のような水面。帆をあげることもなく、漕いでのスタートです。
セーリング・手漕ぎのレースというのは、私たちにとって初めて。
レースといっても、競争というよりも、集まり楽しむことが目的のようなイベント。
とても楽しい週末でした。

The raid started from the entrance of the Hokianga harbour.
The course is going up the harbour with the incoming tide, camping over night, and going back down the harbour the next day on the outgoing tide.
It is about 35km each way.
Opononi, where Opo the Friendly Dolphin used to live was the start.
Although the trip goes with the tide, it can get quite adventurous in some situations depends on the wind and the weather.
The use of engine is not allowed.
The only options are sailing or rowing.
My darling brought his hand-made wooden dinghy.
It is the one I re-painted and re-varnished two years ago .

Day one started with the right breeze. The boats sailed well.

Mia and I followed by our car while they're sailing.
The destination is Horeke, which really has nothing but a great big pub.
The big building is the pub. It has a big beer garden along side the harbour.
We set up our tent on the lawn.
Mia's first camping experience was camping at the pub!

By the evening, the garden was packed by the tents.
I was glad that Mia slept well. A picture from early in the morning.
It was a bit chilly.
There's no wind on our day two.
The water surface was as smooth as glass. Everybody started with rowing.
It was our first try to join the raid.
The event was more into meeting up and enjoying together than competing with each other.
We enjoyed the weekend very much.
