自分達で、外に新たに物置を建て、

大工さんに2階の改装を手伝ってもらい、

自分達でペンキを塗って、こんな素敵に仕上がりました。現在の、私たちのプロジェクトは、一階と同じジャラ材のフローリング。一列目を敷いたところ斜めに釘をうって、表面には釘が見えないようにします。色々、根気がいります。電気のこぎり、ドリル、金づちなど、うるさいので、ミーアに耳覆いをかぶせると耳栓にかえて、落ち着きました。おもちゃを色々持ち込んでも、もっぱら手に取るのは、大工道具ばかり(笑)ならば、手伝ってもらおうと、金づちを渡してみました。一日、2-3列など、少しずつ作業していき、3週間後にはこんな感じになりました。逆から見ると…3年前、私がNZに移ってきたとき、7年経っても、完成していない家に住んでいる彼に少しあきれたのですが。

この3年間、

何事も(特に自分達でやると)時間がかかるということを学び、

NZには、10年以上経っていても、完成していない家がたくさんある(!)ことを知り、

うちは、まあ、頑張っているほうかなぁ、と、考え直しています。

2 years ago, the upstairs was an attic full of treasures(!).

We built a lean-to shed to store our junk、

and then we finished off everything upstairs except the floor

Recently we've been laying jarrah floor boards the same as downstairs.just started the first one...edge nailing so that the nails don't showIt's a bit fiddly job.I put ear muffs on Mia because it's a bit noisy with drilling and banging,she seems happier with her ear plugs.Although I brought up some toys, she played with tools lying around.I gave her a hammerAfter 3 weeks of very part time work, it looked like this;3 years ago when I moved to NZ, I couldn't understand why a house wouldn't be finished despite being started 7 years before.

But over the last 3 years,

I learnt that everything takes more time than you would think especially when we do it ourselves

also I visited many houses in NZ that are taking much longer to finish.

赤ちゃん手話(ベビーサイン)を本で読んで、興味をもち、試してみています。

今は、少数の単語、手話で繰り返しているところ。

そのうちミーアが、手話でこたえてくれると嬉しいなぁ、と待ち遠しく感じています。

I got interested in Baby sign language and we have been trying.

We are at the first stage just repeating a few words in sign language.

NZ原生の苗木を100本、無料で分けていただきました。

We've been thinking about further planting this winter.

At just the right time, we heard about a nursery generously giving away NZ native trees.

We got 100 tree seedling from them. Thanks to Alter-natives!

棚に入りきらない分は、本棚前の小さな机に山積み(苦笑)。

ミーアの本は、全部この机の上にあるのです。

前にも書いたけど、絵本が好きなミーアは、ここで、たくさんの時間を過ごします。「しーあわっせなら手をたったこ〜！」

パンパン！と、手もたたいて、とっても嬉しそうオークランドの日本語絵本図書館から借りる本も、お気に入りのひとつ。「だるまさんと」という本が気に入ったようなので、

同シリーズの「だるまさんが」「だるまさんの」も、日本から送ってもらいました。シンプルなラインなのですが、ユーモアもあって、素敵な絵本です

We have a book shelf in the middle of our living area where Mia often spends her free time.

All of Mia's books are on the table.

Mia, who loves books, spends lots of her time looking through these books.

結構、重いのに、ミーアは、これを押して歩きますミーアは動物も大好き。ガラスのドア近くで、にわとりに話しかけている様子。猫用のドアをぱたぱた…大好きな猫のシッド、ここから外に出て行ったんだよなぁ…

ミーアはますます、元気に動き回るようになり

なので、暖炉の囲いを購入しました。

薪は、自分達で木を切り、運び、適当な長さ・細さに割って準備。

ひと冬を越す分なので、2-3週末にわたる、結構な重労働なのでした。

5月。

いよいよ、今年初の暖炉をたきました。

NZでは、暖炉の代わりに、エアコンを導入する家が増えつつあります。

手間はかかるけど、暖炉の風情が、私は大好きです。

少なくとも、うちのような田舎では、薪代はかからないし！

In April, we started to have chilly mornings

Therefore, we bought a fire guard.

We got ready for winter by cutting, carrying, and splitting firewood.

It's quite hard work that it kept us busy for a couple of weekends.

In May

we lit the fire for the first time this year.

In NZ, it is getting popular to have heat pump instead of fireplaces.

It's an effort to cut firewood, but I love the feel of the fire.

We took our run-about out to collect some oysters at low tide.

たくさん笑い、たくさん遊び、一人にしても忙しく(!)何かしていてくれます。

はいはい、拍手、バイバイ、バブバブ言葉、つかまりながら歩く等、

できることも、増えてきました。

3月(7ヶ月)から、夜通し寝てくれるようになり、私の体力も、妊娠前くらいに戻りました。

Mia is 8 months old now.

Even without any company, she's quite happy being busy with something by herself.

She can do lots more stuff as well; crawling, clapping hands, waving bye-bye, babbling, walking while holding onto something etc.

My strength has finally came back as good as pre-pregnancy since Mia started to sleep through the night in March.

桟橋で魚釣りをしている家族と、世話話をしながら過ごしました。

次々と小さな魚がかかる中、釣れたのが、たこ。

「うわー気持ち悪いー」と子供が騒ぎ、誰が触って逃がすのか、と、もめている様子。

「私やりますよ」と買って出て、「食べたら美味しいんですよ」というと、

「持って帰っていいよ」と言ってくれました。

彼(NZ人)と友達(日本人)が、ヨットの片付けをしている待ち時間に、

たこが3杯も、あがりました(やったぁ！)。

家に、たこ焼き器が眠っているのを思い出して、「夕飯は、たこ焼きにしよう」と決定。

「でも、きっと、うまく丸くはできないよー」という2人を横目に、

関西人の私が、得意げに、ひょいひょい、と転がして見せました(笑)。

彼にはり(串)を渡したら、

たこ焼き作りって、食べる量の割りに、ものすごく時間がかかるのですが。

3人でわいわい、しゃべりながら過ごす時間が楽しく、

私が中学生(!!)のとき、友人とたこ焼き屋さん(自分達で焼くお店)に行って、過ごした日々を、

懐かしく思い出しました。

While Mia and I were waiting after sailing,

They were catching lots of kinds of little fish, and then got an octopus.

"Ew!!" a girl said. They looked each other as if asking who's going to release it.

"I can do it" I said. "It's actually yummy."

"You are more than welcomed to take it home" they told me.

While I was waiting for my darling (kiwi husband) and our friend (Japanese) to finish tidying up the yacht, they caught 3 octopuses. Lucky for me!

Remembering we had special cookware for Takoyaki, Japanese octopus dumpling at home, we decided to have it for our tea.

It's a bit tricky dish to make as the timing and the way to turn the dumpling has to be right- often first-timers Takoyaki doesn't come our round which supposed to be.

"I don't think we make it as good and round as professionals do"

my darling and our friend were not willing to try to cook it,

but as I am from Osaka, Takoyaki's home,

I made it just right!

When I let my darling to do it with its skewer,

Although cooking Takoyaki takes long time for a little amount of food,

we had a great time chatting, drinking and poking it.

Four of us, including our friend from Japan, went on our yacht for an over-night sailing trip.
